Memoir Of A Gothic Girl By Scott Pixello Book Review

Premise of Gothic Girl:
For 13-year-old Celine Smith, saying what she thinks at school and at home only seems to land her in trouble, so instead she starts a diary. But this won't just be any old diary. For Celine transforms herself into Severina Smith and join the ranks of the undead in search of a Robert Pattinson lookalike. She travels to the dark side, learning how to dress and dance as a member of an underground youth movement but stays overground so people can still see her. This will be the memoir of a Goth. If only she knew what that was. This is the story of what happens when she finds out.
Think “Anne Frank meets Siouxsie and the Banshees."

My Review

5 of 5 Gothic Girl

Gothic Girl is one of those stories that is hilarious! I mean Scott had me on the floor laughing so hard. Being a teenager is so hard sometimes and what teenagers do to be noticed and accepted is incredible and Scott brings that with this story. We see Celine is just your ordinary 13 year old girl lost in the sea of students and family and friends. She wants to stand out to experience something different and this happens when she gets her diary from her Uncle. At first she was mad because let's face it at 13 who in the hell wants a bloody diary? No one so she is mad but then she decides she is going to be someone else and write in her diary and this is where the story starts to take off and we see that Celine becomes Severina.

This is a coming of age story that will have you laughing out loud and remembering your teenage years. Celine and her mother and brother have such a close relationship that it was great to see this throughout the book. Celine best friend was her Aunt. She trusted her aunt with everything and told her everything. I loved how Scott wrote this in diary form as well because we get to read the entries and see what Celine is thinking and what is happening on that day. I loved watching her have her crushes and her boyfriends and then talking about her friends and what is going on. All in all I highly recommend this book to all teenagers looking for a great read!
